Republicans Should Lead Charge In Obama, Pelosi Health Care Bill As Dems Fail

Written by: Jeff Crouere

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is sounding desperate these days. Her impatience is evident as the healthcare debate drags on and her Democratic majority in the House is threatened.

While the Democrats currently have a comfortable margin in Congress, it is not insurmountable. Republicans need to pick-up only 40 seats in November and the GOP will certainly target the 48 congressional Democrats serving in districts won by John McCain in the 2008 election.

Over the past few months, the healthcare debate has been a big time loser for Democrats as tea parties and town hall meetings have galvanized opposition to the bill and generated enthusiasm for the GOP. While Republicans participated in the ridiculous farce of a healthcare summit last week, they did not retreat from their objections with the President’s $2.5 trillion bill.

Right now, Democrats are trying to find some formula that will work in Congress. The Senate and House bills are very different and the President’s modified plan, which was presented last week, is still 2,400 pages. Yesterday, Pelosi announced that the President will propose a “much smaller” bill for Congress to consider.

Democrats are determined to pass some type of bill, even if it will cost them their House majority. They have invested so much political capital and time on the issue that a complete defeat would be humiliating.

Without question, the issue is a loser for the Democrats. While they push forward with a bill, Americans remain steadfastly opposed. According to the latest CNN poll, only 25% of Americans support the bills that have been approved by Congress. The poll indicates that the vast majority of Americans want Congress to start over or stop work on the healthcare bill completely.

As the Democrats are obsessed with healthcare, the American people are getting angrier. Voters who elect members of Congress don’t like their wishes to be disregarded so completely. The American people want immediate action on the economy, not a $2.5 trillion expansion of government in the healthcare arena. The whole debate is quite a distraction from the real work on the economy that Americans are demanding.

The Democrats will now push for a “reconciliation” vote that will require only a majority of Senators. While this maneuver has been done in the past by Republicans, it has never been used on an issue so unpopular with the American people and something that has such far reaching implications on our economy. Regardless of whether reconciliation is used or not, it is clear that the longer the President and his Democratic allies are obsessed on the healthcare issue, the easier it will be for Republicans to take control of Congress this fall.

Even a smaller bill will allow the government to lay the groundwork for a much larger role in healthcare in the future. It is always easier to grow a government program than to rescind it. Democrats know that if they pass a bill this year, the GOP will never be able to stop it from growing next year and the year after. Over time, all government bureaucracies tend to become larger and more expensive.

To prevent a massive expansion of government, Republicans need to defeat this measure and prevent a new bureaucracy from being created. The GOP is now working on behalf of the American people while the Democrats are clearly doing the bidding of special interests and bureaucrats. The different agendas are both disturbing and clear to all Americans, who will remember this historic debate in November.

No, I do not believe it is time to ‘lighten up’….. If anything, it is time to be ‘heavy,,,,,, dude’…. We live, we die, we love, we cry, we work, we try, we keep our sights fixed on the heaven’s above, it definitely is no time to lie………………. We here in the United States have the right stuff, we are the right stuff. Without this shining beacon in a sea of confusion there will be no more today. And we are quickly and surely losing sight of the important things in life. And now it appears it has become utter confusion. This nation, at this very point in our history, is ripe for the big fall. And it will not be pleasant. The sad thing about it is, in a last ditch effort for self preservation, the rats in charge of the cheese house will sell out to the hand that holds out more cheese. We need to embark upon a path of reinvigoration of the characteristics and fortitudes of this nation. Liberty and Justice for all…. Freedom of speech……… The right to work…… The right to receive an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s labor……. The right to dream and pursue ones goals as they are conducive to the preservations of the whole…..

<"technical details" - whatever> .. but I do believe in national self-sufficiency. Be that food or shipping, we should produce everything essential we need (not friggin' toys or Mardi Gras beads, "essentials"). Of course, to produce it as cheaply as we could buy ships or food from overseas, we would need to do this work with illegal aliens making peanuts (with absolutely no benefits) is "strategically essential" ... as of course I'm sure you'll agree.

The helium reserve is of strategic importance, I already wrote about that a year or two ago, why don’t you just drop it….. Wait, here is a hint for you chief….. It is rare on Earth, and is sought for use in nuclear fusion research. ... Tritium produced for other uses evolves helium-3 which can be recovered. ...` - - - - “““Hearing you say something and 1) understanding the technical details or 2) believing it, are not the same thing.”””” - - - - ?????? So tell me chief, how much of an understanding of the technical details and believing in them is required if I tell you it is a smart thing for a nation to grow its own food…????? Yeah, your reasoning is superfluous….. Just do what you do when you get in your car, turn the key to start it up and don’t worry about the timing, the bore, the stroke, the cam size, the fuel delivery ratios, the spark, the air intake necessary, etc., etc., etc. Just be happy it gets you to the store or to the heliport….

"...you piss and moan about being ‘extorted’ for dollars out of your ‘paycheck’ in the guise of taxes" - I do not like the wasteful spending of government, I do not decry needed spending by government or the taxes I pay for that spending ("mohair subsidies" - now that's not "necessary" IMHO) - "...You are shown ways of obtaining vastly improved protection and you STILL AREN’T SATISFIED" - I HEAR you SAY your product will provide protection, Hearing you say something and 1) understanding the technical details or 2) believing it, are not the same thing. In any case you need to convince the people who have their hands on the purse strings of government that your product is worthwhile. I cannot even get them to end the Helium Reserve, so WTF could I do- even if I were convinced I should do anything. So ... I work .. blue collar .... I sweat, get rained on, sometimes it's cold. No big deal, I went back to blue collar after 2 1/2 years of being white collar. Glad I did .. except ... I do miss all the "click - clack" action that a downtown office building has; I may not be a trained fighter pilot, but I've got the "keep your head on a swivel" part down pat.

Ehhhh, anyways doc, back to the ‘Lever’ notes….. Remember that I tells ya’ that paychecks could be like 70% ‘Lever’ notes and 30% ‘Reserve’ notes… Well, a reserve is what a reserve is so allow me to help you with your reservation, or reservations, or, ehhhh… wutever…… anyways Doc E. Pluribus Unum… (I prefers that more to than Doc E. Coli, nayuck-ncuk-nuck-nuck, oh wait, I am out of character… or carroter, I should have laughed; heh-heh--- chomp – chomp – chomp –chomp)…… And remember the expiration date on the ‘Lever’ note? Sort of like the expiration date on a carton of milk…. Ahhhh, but some folks want to have their carrot cake and eat it too I suppose…… Well, enter the Federal Reserve, and the ‘Reserve’ note…… You know, that thoity poicent……. What do you do with those? Well, you can harness those to the value of gold if you want, or you can harness them to the value of a ‘Lever’ note. and Reserve notes don’t have an expiration date, and you can use them for whatever you want but I would suggest using them for retirement savings, or buying land. You know, go to an FDIC bank and deposit those ‘Reserve’ notes there. Yeah, you see doc? O.K., the ‘Lever’ notes… Ahhh, the expiration date…. Well, just before they expire, you can buy stocks or invest on the commodities and exchange market with them… You get another piece of paper back saying you have x amount of ‘stock’…… After all, the stock market is supposed to be for getting ‘cash flow’ to businesses when they need it…….. O.K., and stocks an’ bonds is reglee-ate-ed by the SUc…… er,,,, uhhhhh, the SEC….. And the corporation or wutever that issued the stock, well, they turn around and forward those off to a ‘Lever’ Reserve in exchange for brand new 1 year, or 2 year, or 3 year ‘Lever’ notes that they can use to pay employees, or buy typewriters, or paper, or bananas, or coconuts, or steel or wutever they feel like…. Anyways, if you need money, sell your stock, yeahhhhhh, you get the picture there doc, sell some stock, buy some stock, sell some stock, buy some stock, work your job, earn your pay, invest some Lever notes, put some Reserve notes away…. Oh, and taxes? Pay ‘em with Lever notes. Taxes are supposed to be used to pay civil servants, and poli-tich-eee-anny type folks, and buy their office supplies at the gooberment job, and buy mops and brooms from the light house for the blind, and pay the wages of folks that go milk the c0ws on private farms that is used to make the gooberment cheese they give away in the wicky-wicky-WIC-wicker ware baskets……. Ehhh, round and round and round it goes, where the ‘Lever’ note will stop working, nobody knows……. Ehhh, stay tuned for more updates there doc………

"...one huge bankruptcy to follow-the implosion of the entire United States under an avalanche of unfunded, past due liabilities." Thank you NSFE, for putting my fear for our nation far more eloquently than I am capable of doing. The spending of this administration is an example of "the cure being far worse than the disease." It would be far better to cut government spending now, than to be forced to make cuts later; why can't they see this? "Short-sighted self interset" perhaps?

Deanslist2--The numbers Jeff is looking at are those of people that have looked at and have even a working conception of what is in these Bills. Yes, the majority of Americans, as you say, do want health care reform, but what is on offer cannot be called healthcare REFORM--but rather healthcare cost shifting, obfuscation, wealth transfers, more taxes, etc., etc. etc., all done in a way that does not even begin to address the real ills in the delivery of healthcare in the U.S. In the first place the Bills as advanced until now are unconstitutional--a mandatory taking by government, violative of the equal protection under the law, and takings clauses, as well as others. To do what this Congress is trying to do would require a Constitutional amendment, which would require much more than a simple majority in each House as in "reconciliation". The Demos have been caught speeding, recklessly driving at breakneck speed, to enact what could have been done in a thoughtful, deliberative process, in a manner reflective of the constitutional, democratic republican form of government we are suppoosed to abide by. This massive a change in rights, responsibilities, etc. should have been approached at a time when the economy wasn't already hemmoraging, and voted on by the fifty states in the form of a Constitutional Amendment, in a Constitutionally acceptable manner. Then and only then, Deanslist2, would you know wat the "will of the people" really is.

Dr. Stolier- Read "doing the bidding of special interests and bureaucrats" as in SIEU, the Louisiana Purchase, the Nebraska deal, and whatever other special interest extortion it takes to get the necessary number of votes, using every tactic and any tactic, to lie (as in collecting 10 years of taxes to fund six years of coverage, so as to make the numbers look less outrageous, even if though still not palatable), when anyone and everyone with any sense knows you can't score a system that way. Bottom line, the fix is in to just get across the abyss once, and at any cost, and then once across it, there's no turning back, and we can sort out the details (read exhorbitant costs) later. Read social security as sold to the public in its conception and then reviewed in the fullness of time in its reality (i.e., sold to an unsuspecting public as "insurance" to provide a limited retirement to workers, using a "lockbox" to secure the funds, and "contributions" based on modest annual earning limits, etc. v. what the system has become-a huge drain on the economy with astronomic unfunded liabilities, largely resulting from its conversion into a massive redistribution system, staffed by a virtual army of bureaucrats, all or almost all members of SIEU, no less). The stories of the bankruptcies the current system has created notwithstanding, if the program presently before the Congress for "reconciliation" is passed, there will be one huge bankruptcy to follow-the implosion of the entire United States under an avalanche of unfunded, past due liabilities. THAT'S SPECIAL INTERESTS AND BUREAUCRATS.

Just one simple question, Jeff. Where are YOU getting your numbers from? According to everything I'VE heard, seen and read, the American people overwhelmingly WANT healthcare reform, not stonewalling and obstructionism. They don't want the status quo and more favors for the special interests who have always had their way and who stand to lose the most. These phony tea parties, etc. are a handful of miscreants who can scream louder than the other side but that doesn't put them in the majority.

What do I want - I assume you don't mean in my personal life. For our country, I want honesty from politicians. I'd like to see our country prosper. I think this is the greatest country in the world - and the reason for that is freedom. The foundations of our freedoms have been forged by those who fought against the Roman imperialists, the royal families who ruled "the commoners" - the dogma of religious leaders who had far too much influence in governance. The spirit of overcoming these tyrannies led to our rebellion against King George III in the 18th century. However, I truly believe that forces - primarily bankers (now, I'm not talkin' about the guy who runs the bank on Veterans Hwy, I'm talking BIG banking here) took over our country - and both political parties - early in the 20th century. I want to see them fail - and if we follow Greece's example, they will. Their "debt game" government expendatures and their other pyramid schemes are coming apart at the seams right now. It will be painful, but the lessons learned will - hopefully - prevent reoccurance of the "something for nothing" mindset that has affected our government for the last 97 years. I believe that success lies in the hands of hard working, educated "common" people - i.e. "the masses" - not "the elite" that (are supposed to) represent the people in elected office. Here's da quote again: "Naïve trust in the power of words to command reality is found in all mass delusions."

I take issue with the statement "Democrats are clearly doing the bidding of special interests and bureaucrats." What does this mean? Maybe I misunderstood. For instance, maybe by special interest you mean those who have been diagnosed with cancer prior to age 65. I would guess that would qualify as a special interest. Those in this special interest group do just fine as long as they're covered by a group policy (HIPPA-eg Kennedy-Kassebaum). What of those that are not in a group policy? I have personally witnessed many young women who are diagnosed with cancer well prior to their 65th birthday. Their personal policies are subject to rate changes and cancellations whereas those without insurance become (except under HIPPA), uninsurable. Would should we do with them? Shall we let them wallow in the public hospital sector where care may at times be less than optimal, are cared for by doctors in training with what at times is marginal faculty coverage. Those with very limited resources in many instances have to take 2-3 buses to arrive at their clinic appointments only to wait hours to see the doctor. Is this the special interest group that you speak of? Are health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and physicians the special interest groups that you speak of as influencing the Democratic Party? I think not.

Health care reform? The U.S. has the best health care in the world? In who’s opinion? What? Our X-rays are better than those found in Russia, Britain or Pakistan? Our MRI’s are better than those done in Canada, Brazil, or China? Our surgeons are better than all the surgeons in the world? Our Band-Aids, bedpans and aspirins are of a higher quality than theirs? What? Our hospitals are prettier and more expensive than theirs so obviously ‘ours’ is the best and therefore should cost the most? In fact, so expensive that lots of folks can’t afford it? The schizophrenic supply and demand business/economy model/explanation we labor under is fuggin retarded…. Uhhhh, the higher the demand, the higher the price? Uhhhh, the higher the productivity, the lower the cost? Uhhhhh, why don’t you just stab me in the eyeball with a Bic pen…… What makes ours better and of course, worth more????? Oh, I know, it’s our diversity!!!! We have more Pilipino, and Latino immigrant nurses than any other place in the world (not really, but it sounds like a good shit stirrer.)!!!!! What? Our doctors? We have more Pakistani, Iranian, Ugandan, Haitian, etc., etc., etc. doctors than any other place in the world!!! Well guess what sweet cheeks…. The facts are these ass clowns are only here for the ‘money’… Which they make at the expense of someone’s pain and suffering… I remember a biography on J. Paul Getty I read years ago, he said; “To make something valuable, you must first make it rare”…. Well, I guess in comparison to those other countries, the amount of pain and suffering we here in the U.S. have to endure is like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy less than theirs. Sooooo…….. They really don’t want to be ‘doctors’ or ‘humanitarians’ so instead of returning to their countries to help their fellow nationals out after they get their good medical educations here, they stay here to suck the money, and let the ‘system’ worry about sending aid and medical supplies and care and treatment to their ‘fellow’ countrymen…. They didn’t come to the United States to become Americans, they came here because they want what we have and they don’t want to be stuck with having to be a benefit to society…… Oh what a horrible name to call someone, ‘A benefit to society’…. Ha-ha-ha-jaha-jahar-dee-har-deeee-hardee-har-har……. Lever notes folks, lever notes…… Oh wait, instead of progress, you want to do it their way and spend your life working for a doctor, or an insurance company, or an oil company, or the military, or the phone company, or a cable/internet company, or Taco Bell….. And as a reward, you get all the gambling casinos you want or chanced @ the lotto to keep your hope alive…. Meanwhile there is lots of work in Chillay and Hate-e………..
