Is Alaskan Governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, a pit bull with lipstick? She says so.Is she a pig with lipstick?Republicans complain Obama called that her yesterday.Or is a pig flying?
Did Palin give birth, at age 44, to little Trig in a remote hospital in the Alaskan wilderness after flying for hours, leaking amniotic fluid, hauling heavy suitcases and little daughter Piper in tow, solely to avoid the ignominy of having an offspring born in Texas or Louisiana?
Gratuitous Alaskan insults to two great states aside….
Is Palin's story just lipsticked (pit)bull?
Bloggers have a theory about Palin's "secret" pregnancy: Trig is actually Palin's teenage daughter, Bristol's, son; allegedly, when Bristol became unexpectedly pregnant, Palin pulled her out of school (claiming mononucleosis) and arranged for adoption. However, news that Bristol's child had Down's Syndrome de-railed the adoption.By then, abortion was legally impossible, even if right-to-lifer Palin would have allowed it.Bloggers surmise that Palin then decided to fake being pregnant herself, fake giving birth, and make lemonade out of lemons for the far "Right to Life" branch of her party.Raising a Down's Syndrome child is challenging but has political benefits, and will not tax Palin excessively if she's not often home.
These rumors persist because of Palin's weird, self-described behavior in telling no one, not even her closest aides and relatives, of her pregnancy until seven months along.People who saw her every day professed incredulity. And photographs of Palin supposedly pregnant—which, at seven months, is when you look like you've stuffed a watermelon down your shirt-- show at most a smallish bump that could just be middle-age feminine bloat curable by daily tasty yogurt infusions.
Provocative bloggers suggest an Oedipal narrative—that Trig is Bristol's baby, fathered by her father, Todd.Other Oedipists wonder whether Bristol's pregnancy caused silent teenage brother Track to deploy to Iraq with the military, like, tomorrow. Since Palin would bar abortion for rape or incest, the Oedipal narrative takes on deeper political significance.
Thank goodness bloggers have the National Enquirer fact-checking!The Enquirer claims that Track is an alcohol-slurpin,' cocaine-sniffin,'
marijuana-tokin' OxyContin-abusin' neighborhood vandal who's off to Iraq with the military because that is what troubled Alaskan youth do.
Whew!Clarity at last!
The Enquirer further reports that high school hockey king Levi Johnston, the putative father of Bristol's current (or second) baby, "got dragged out of the house" to attend Palin's Convention speech.
The alleged lovers uneasily held hands, often gazing away from each other.Bristol looked sad and wary.Levi, who'd boisterously announced on the internet he "doesn't want kids," was subdued.
Is Bristol truly pregnant now?Could she have given birth and become pregnant again in such quick succession? Is Levi the father of Bristol's current baby? The National Enquirer doesn't say.It does say that Bristol was "a huge [pot] smoker and drinker" who would "get drunk and make out with so many guys," and that Bristol and Levi "broke up a few times and they definitely messed around with other people."
Now, is this any of our business?Unfortunately yes, but only
because Palin will be in command if then-President McCain becomes incapacitated. Why worry?Because drawing a bead on the whole world is harder than shooting a moose.
There's only one way to know for sure whether Palin is a lipsticked pit bull or just talking a bunch of bull—check out her medical records.
Medical records will likely show whether a candidate is physically and mentally fit for the presidency.Palin's health is a valid concern because her co-candidate, Senator John McCain, at 72, faces a rigorous presidential term and has already had three go-rounds with an aggressive form of skin cancer. He looks old and unhealthy, his face puffy and his gait wracked with pain from an enlarged prostate, war wounds, torture injuries, and arthritis. In contrast, Sarah Palin seems boundlessly robust and nubile and…well, shaky-bakey like those plain-jane secretaries in the '50s movies who yank off their glasses and toss their hair free from their bobby-pinned beehives and…and….
Where were we?
Even if you'd vote for just any old pig who can get the job done, checking the candidates' medical records seems like a good idea.
Oh, but we can't, can we?
No.Airlines require pilots to undergo medical exams every six
months, restaurants routinely vet employees for ill health and illicit drug use, but presidents get a pass.
Shouldn't Congress require the same?Elections are paid for largely out of the public kitty as part of the public democratic process. If honesty is also part of that process, disclosure of candidates'
Unfortunately, the gold standard in today’s banking system is impossible to maintain. I am not sure if you are familiar with the works of L. Frank Baum. He wrote the cartoon stories involved with the Wizard of OZ. That was the early 1900’s Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings type phenomena. Actually the Ruby Slippers were silver shoes. It was actually a cartoon of metaphors. It is interesting to look at some of the works of Robert F. Mulligan, Ph.D. WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS - Department of Economics, Finanace, & International Business…… He hypothesized The Wizard of Oz as a Monetary Allegory…… 1. The Quantity Theory of Money: MV = PQ where M = the quantity of money in circulation (M1)…. V = the velocity of money. This can be assumed to be a constant. It does go up slowly over time as the technology for clearing transactions through the banking system is improved… P = the average price level….. Q = real national output (GNP or GDP)….. 1a. The Quantity of Money Theory of Prices: P = MV/Q……. 2. Historical Chronology……. 1861-1864 U.S. Civil War, (northern) U.S. goes off the gold standard, war inflation (prices rose)……. 1869-1879 Deflation, the money supply increased more slowly than GNP, causing price levels to fall. The government pursued a tight money policy so they could eventually resume gold payments…….. 1879 Resumption of gold standard,,,,,,. 1880s Fast expanding economy demanded so much money, prices still fell……… 1890 Sherman Silver Purchase Act. Provided for increased purchase and coinage of silver. People now feared that the U.S. would switch from a gold to a silver standard and so began to hoard gold, depleting the treasury's supply….. 1893 Panic and depression, 20% unemployment……. 1896 Chicago Democratic National Convention. William Jennings Bryan lost to Republican William McKinley. "Cross of Gold" speech……. late 1890s Gold discovered in South Africa, increase in money supply caused prices to rise. The Boer War between the U.K. and non-English white settlers in South Africa followed shortly after……. 1900 Kansas City Democratic Convention. The populists wanted to go "from Kansas to fairyland," i.e., Washington…….. 3. Baum's Allegory According to Rockoff….. Dorothy = the American people: plucky, good natured, naive…… Toto = the Prohibition (Temperance) party. Favored the bimetallic standard but like any fringe group often pulled in the wrong direction. So they got to be a dog. (Toto is a play on "teetotalers.")……. Oz = the almighty ounce (oz) of gold……. The yellowbrick road = paved with gold bricks, but leads nowhere…… Dorothy's silver slippers = originally the property of the Wicked Witch of the East, until Dorothy drops the house on the witch. Walking on the yellowbrick road with the silver slippers represented the bimetallic standard. (MGM changed the silver slippers to the vivid (garish, even) ruby slippers to exploit the fabulous technology of Technicolor.)…… The Good Witch of the North = New England, a populist stronghold……. The Good Witch of the South = the South, another populist stronghold…….. The Wicked Witch of the East = Eastern banking and industrial interests. She is killed by Dorothy's falling house because the Populists expected that the eastern industrial workers would vote Populist, but this never really happened……. The Wicked Witch of the West = the West was where the Populists were strongest. The only reason why the West gets a wicked witch is a) you need two bad guys to balance the two good guys, and especially, b) William McKinley was from Ohio, then thought of as a western state. The wicked witch is sometimes identified directly with President McKinley……. The Munchkins = subjects of the eastern banking and industrial interests, i.e., eastern workers who didn't vote for Bryan……. The Scarecrow = western farmers. They were Populists……. The Tin Woodsman = eastern workers. Populist mythology always looked to this group for support, but never found it in reality. Baum realized this (most Populists didn't) and shows the Tinman as a victim of mechanization. He's so dehumanized he doesn't have a heart……. The Cowardly Lion = William Jennings Bryan……. The Emerald City = Washington D.C. The color is suggestive of paper greenbacks……. The Wizard = President McKinley, but sometimes his advisor, Marcus Alonzo Hanna…………………………………. For a Bibliography KPF, you may additionally refer to: L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, New York: Hill, 1900………… Milton Friedman and Anna J. Schwartz, A Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960, Princeton NJ: Princeton University Press/National Bureau of Economic Research, 1963………. And Hugh Rockoff, "The Wizard of Oz as a Monetary Allegory," Journal of Political Economy, (1990) 98:4, pp. 739-761………………… Not going to quote from memory, instead I opt to post a better explanation of the above from a clipping……….. A simplified analysis is that the populists championed a bimetal standard for the U.S. currency, i.e., one based on both gold and silver. With a gold standard, there was too little paper money in circulation. The bankers and industrialists of the day controlled gold and wanted a gold based currency. This restricted the availability of money and hence, so the theory went, kept inflation and prices low. The populists believed that if a bimetal standard was adopted there would be more paper money and an increase in commerce, salaries, and prices benefitting farmers and workers………. As a young child I had all of the original works of L. Frank Baum…. They were very informative, and very entertaining… More so than trying to decipher the metaphors presented by Lewis Carroll in many of his works. Any how, coupled with volumes of old books to cross reference these were fairly easy concepts to grasp but I am grateful for the analysis made by Robert F. Mulligan, Ph.D. This thing with the illegal immigrants is a problem that sorely needs address….. It is in part a ploy to prop up the Social Security fund, but in the end, it is more or less a ponzi scheme that is doomed to failure. The numbers do not add up… Ever since the implementation of this program by FDR it, if followed in the fashion it was framed under, was always doomed to failure and was regarded as a problem for the future. The first recipient of a Social Security retirement check was issued to a woman who’s name I forget, but basically she worked for a few months, then retired after this program was instituted and immediately began drawing oh I don’t know, around $30 or $50 a month or something like that which was a good sum back in the 30’s… This program was instituted to help prevent the elderly from living in poverty……. Well, now we have S.S.I. concerns which have been tacked onto the program, coupled with Medicare/Medicade concerns in a roundabout fashion. So in instance, just as we have going on now with the financial entities the feds are preparing to bail out, a case of Robbing Peter to Pay Paul…… Many discussions and arguments can be engaged while evaluating this system, it needs to be redefined, and specifically financed on a stand alone basis……. More on that, but sometime else…. My concern is where you state; As far as government and academic jobs being so prevalent, this is an artificial not a market force (i.e., "wanted" or "needed") phenomenon. Here I disagree…… It is not artificial, and it is a market force…….. But I have a vast appreciation for your “(i.e., "wanted" or "needed") phenomenon.” observation…. And it is my understanding both government and academic are to a great extent if not in their entirety a result of taxpayer funding……. The decision as to where to make the cuts? Being as these slots come about as a result of taxes, then the dollars have to come from somewhere else in the economy…….. Lower wages to workers? Lack of Healthcare? Insufficiency of Social Security? Etc., etc., etc….. I agree with you KPF, gold is the standard to measure by. Hence its spectacular rise in cost……… But not in value. It’s value is always a constant, cost is relevant to what?, and is the variable when bringing the printing of currency and factoring in depreciation, inflation, productivity, etc……….. We go by GNP/GDP….. Alan Greenspan screwed things up allowing too much credit on the market…… But that is not the woes of AIG type events. Those are valuation lapses. Someone attaching value to what? And from there the problems snowballed on down the pike. It is, as was outlined in the Wizard of Oz literally impossible for everyone to have Gold, or Silver… There is not enough of it in the world for each person… As populations explode, so too does the availability of precious metals ‘implode’. And in order to make trade move ahead, paper is issued but the valuation systems in place are faulty to a tremendous extent. Hence the old adage; “Guns or Butter”……. We here in the United States have been investing in a lot of Butter at the expense of our Guns……… And when we have leaders, such as Bobby Jindal, that ignores cost savings processes, increase in productivity, and jobs and seeks to suck at the Federal trough to a greater extent, these problems with inflation, recession, and eventual stagnation become advent as these very same processes are being followed by every other state in the Union as well……….. Ehhhh,,,, lots can be written on this subject, as for myself I say “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!!!!! I would rather produce and contribute than reduce and watch our them redistribute our livelihoods”. Take care KPF……………… Written by

Good points. Of course our economy is "fundamentally sound." Surely those who advocate more social spending must think so as well. After all if the economy wasn't sound how could we afford to take ever more money from wage earners while at the same time allowing unlimited illegal alien egress into our country across our borders? Hell, if we don't have enough money - since we're not on the gold standard - we can always just print more and more. I also very much agree on your comments concerning productive physical work vs. office (planning, studies, R&D, etc.) work. Both are needed but when there's an economic downturn, the "fundamental" work will still be in demand. As far as government and academic jobs being so prevalent, this is an artificial not a market force (i.e., "wanted" or "needed") phenomenon. Written by kpf

I am in agreement with Senator John McCain when he says; “Our economy is fundamentally sound.” Fundamentally is the word to focus on. Fun•da•men•tal – adjective; [fŭn'də-měn'tl] or [fuhn-duh-men-tl] - Serving as, or being an essential part of, a foundation or basis; basic; underlying; fundamental principles; the fundamental structure. Fun•da•men•tal•ly, - [Fun`da*men"tal*ly] adverb, - Synonyms; indispensable, primary……… ‘In essence; at bottom or by one's (or its) very nature; "He is basically honest"; "the argument was essentially a technical one"; "for all his bluster he is in essence a shy person" [additional syn: basically]………. For instance, people in the Amazon rain forest would unanimously agree with that after a brief contemplation of where it is they would need to go to purchase a Big Mac with a large order of fries and an icy coca-cola on the side. And people in Benin (That is a country in Africa) would also come to the same conclusion as John McCain did if they were contemplating the purchase (if they had any money that is) of a pair of Levi jeans, or a can of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. And when it comes time for Saudi Arabia to purchase new engine parts for their F-111 tactical fighter jets, you will find them to be overjoyed that the economy of the United States is still ‘Fundementally sound’. It is not so much our economy that is in the doldrums, but rather the economies of the emerging as well as other well established nations that are of issue here. We, here in the United States need to roll up our shirt sleeves, tighten our belts, and ask ourselves honestly; “WHAT ARE WE PREPARED TO DO?”. The primary cornerstone would be the invigoration of manufacturing. We have adopted a mind set for some reason that the United States wants to be a ‘Service based’ economy. Well, you can’t service the needs of other nations unless they have money, and they do not for the most part. Lower energy costs for industry is paramount. Conservation and fiduciary prudence on the part of the citizens of the United States is another major part of it. The argument seems to be “What is rich?” I have heard numbers tossed out that seem to for some reason make 5 million dollars the benchmark. That is wrong. Rich is having your own home, your own furniture, dishes, refrigerator, healthy children, retirement savings, some spare money to go to McDonald’s or the sauce picante festival, etc. Rich isn’t blowing $400 on a gameboy or X-box, or $150 tennis shoes, or $2,000 dollar wheels and tires on a $650 automobile. The two job sectors in the United States that have had the highest growth rate are; Government jobs, and academic jobs….. There is something wrong with that picture. The funny thing is, when you go to the check out line at the local Wally World, and the person is taking forever to do the simple task of scanning a barcode and putting the can of chicken noodle soup in the plastic bag you have to realize, it took over $108,000.00 during that person’s lifetime to educate it from kindergarten to grade 12. That is ridiculous. I believe there is too much emphasis being placed on ‘education’. Everyone wants that Star Trek lifestyle, go to work, sit in an air conditioned and sterile environment and play around on a set of keyboards generating paperwork that for the most part is never going to be entirely read. And at the same time, expects 150K or better to do this. Ditches still need to be dug, steel beams still need to be welded, trucks still need to be driven, nails still need to be hammered, and at $108,000.00 per person to do these jobs, there is a deficit right out the gate. Prudent rethinking of our processes is necessary. And these days it appears that if a person isn’t conserving, or contributing, things will only continue to worsen where financial security across the board for U.S. citizens are to be concerned….. Are we better off than we were eight years ago? Depends on who you ask. The question assumes that whoever is president determines how well off the enonomy will be... I don't think this is so - there are far too many other factors in play that will determine that. I believe that government interference in the market has a greater probability of harming the economy than helping it. Although I do believe there is a need for government "safety nets" - for finances and hurricane evacuation among other things - nevertheless if one wishes to improve their financial outlook or safely evacuate from a storm one does better to rely upon oneself rather than government. Palin does not impress me - other than how worried she make Democrats. It is the Dems reaction to her that is the most impressive thing about her being the GOP's VP candidate. Written by kpf

Simple question, however, one which should not be too difficult to answer, whether or not you've been heavily coached by the McCain campaign or you can see Russia right from where you live (being able to do that makes one very qualified to formulate foreign policy...LOL): just like Reagan once asked, are you better off today than you were 8 years ago? Is most of the middle and working class of this country better off? Are you making more money? Have a better job or better prospects employment-wise? Feel better about the economy overall? All this hoopla about Palin and pigs and lipstick (and McCain BTW has now conceded himself that Obama was NOT referring to the person of Sarah Palin with his remarks) and moose and hockey moms and who can see Russia from where they live and all should die down soon, let's hope. The news of today tells us in no uncertain terms that there's very, very serious business that needs to be dealt with. More than ever, there needs to be a very serious discussion of the real issues this time around and which answers to those issues each party seems to have. For my part, change is of the essence. Richard P, although I will vote for Obama, I nevertheless I understand why so many working taxpayers will not - and it is not because of the man's color. Your remark about tax cuts typifies the disconnect between the Democratic Party and taxpayers. The Democratic Party has created the tax system whereby the bottom 50% of the population pays 3% of the taxes while the top 8% pays 60+ % of the taxes. Okay, fine, cool, no problem. HOWEVER - - - when it comes time for a tax cut - that is "across the board" tax cuts - where THOSE WHO PAY TAXES get "tax cuts." Then... the bottom 50% will get 3% of the tax cuts (this due to the pact that THAT IS THE PERCENTAGE THEY PAY!!!), the top 8% will get 60+% of the tax cuts (because... oh... you know). Now understand - or try to at least - that a "tax cut" is not government GIVING ANYTHING, rather it is government TAKING LESS. Not "giving'... "taking less." Try not to be confused - it's not that difficult to understand - "giving"... "taking less".... these are two different things.... okay? I - and many other taxpayers - would be more inclined to vote Democratic more often if the Democratic Party would allow THOSE WHO PAY TAXES to get the TAX REDUCTION instead of using tax cuts as just another “wealth redistribution scheme” by referring to TAKING LESS from tax payers as “tax cuts for the rich.” Written by kpf

If you actually see the whole video it's abundantly clear that Obama was referring to McCain's policy ideas and not the person of Sarah Palin and all of the independent fact checking groups have in fact called out the McCain campaign for lying and misrepresenting. But slinging mud by lying, distorting and misrepresenting has long been the staple tactic for the Republicans. All I'm saying is that it's worked and still works. The McCain campaign doesn't care about that they lied. A lie told so many times becomes the truth, just as Adolph Hitler once said. All McCain wants to do is win, baby, win. He used to be about straight talk and, believe it or not, I liked a lot of what I heard from him. But that John McCain is no more. He's just become a George Bush clone. More foreign wars where more Americans can be killed or injured for no real reason and more trillions wasted. More tax cuts for the golden cufflinks set -- and a health care plan that will mean more taxes for the middle class. And no real solution to energy independence. And the key difference is this: sure there's Huffington but there's also Ann Coulter, Limbaugh, etc. too from the other side, but I'm talking about the tactics of the actual campaigns themselves. Come on Richard, can we at least be honest here. Democrats have been all too willing to play dirty politics. All you have to do is go to Daily Kos or Huffington to see what they are capable of. The above article by Ms Whalen is an example. She doesn't have the common decency to leave out the kids.Pathetic. Since McCain announced the Palin pick the Democrats have been frantically trying to dig up dirt to use against her. The "lipstick on a pig" remark by Obama was a clear personal attack on Palin. You can't honestly look yourself in the mirror and believe otherwise. Just look at the reaction of the crowd when it was said.If Obama were so smart he could have used a less offensive remark to attack McCain's policies and left the dirt in the gutter. It was deliberate and you know it. Accusing Republicans of having a lock on dirty politics is dishonest and laughable. Desperation has set in with the Democrats. They are having buyers remorse with this ticket and it's too late to do anything about it. Written by poboy1

I concede this: if the Democrat running were a southern centrist governor white male type, e.g. Bill Clinton, and campaigning with the very same proposals that Obama has been campaigning on then the election would probably be all over. Republicans are Republicans, though. Low-road campaigning is just what they do -- and it does work, no doubt about it. Democrats, except for Bill Clinton, usually can't bring themselves to return fire because, again, that's just who and how they are (when Clinton came along, though, the right wingers went berserk and couldn't handle it at all). Obama never said that Palin herself was a pig; it was GOP *policies* that he was talking about. But I have to concede that even though it was lying for McCain to make this out the way his campaign has it worked well. Maybe it's because Republicans are such true believers in laissez-faire capitalism, as in "on your way up the ladder it's OK to kick everyone off..." and Democrats have different ideas of fairness. Obama's failing is that he's not the down-and-dirty campaigner. McCain didn't used to be, either. He's just recently adopted the Bush approach, maybe feeling from his own experience in 2000 (when his straight talk really was straight talk) that since he could not beat 'em he might as well join 'em (or rather, hire Bush's people to work his campaign, as he indeed has). I thought there was an unspoken agreement that the kids would be left out of the whole mess and that's my main complaint about this poorly written piece by an equally poor Ann Coulter wannabe. The democrats are in free fall. If things were as bad as the libs say, Obama would be running away with this thing. Instead, despite 98% support from blacks, Obama has to meet with Billy Bob "play the race card" Clinton to see if he can help bail his sorry ass out of the mess he is in. Joe Biden is a joke and doesn't even think he was the best choice for VP. How inspiring! If you want to see what kind of person Biden is, read about it in Clarence Thomas' book "MY Grandfathers Son". The GOP may well win this election with these tried-and-true gutterball tactics, however the proof in the pudding is of course whether they can govern, "get this country moving again...," deal with foreign leaders and formulate foreign and defense policy in the current very fluid environment and, most important, get this country solidly started on the road to energy independence (and like T. Boone Pickens says, "drill, drill, drill" is OK in the short term but is NO long solution). Does this country need or really want what would clearly amount to more of the same as how it's had the last 8 years as regards the "war party" being in power? How about health care (McCain's plan would actually involve the middle class paying higher and higher taxes)? And how about the economy and this country's long-term prospects for competitiveness against the likes of China et al.? Does the old guy have the answers? If his goal was to get attention turned away from him and onto someone else maybe he's accomplished that but it says it all if that's what he was trying to do (not to mention lying and distorting things Obama has said) -- just to get elected. If the old guy had something to offer as regards the actual issues that would be great, however he doesn't and it seems that even he himself concedes that. Written by Richard P.

Republicans "got attention" with Palin's nomination- but it will fizzle-out... and that poor pregnant teenage girl-- She has enough problems without her Mother parading her in front of the world for her own political gain... (and the new baby, spent 4 hrs. "as a prop" at the oh-so-loud GOP Convention)...... Geesh- Sarah Palin is a beautiful woman- that's why we watch.... But, her actions speak louder than words as a Mother... and choosing to speak publicly on the day of her son's departure to Iraq is one more example of her putting Campaign before family..... (Oh well, VP is not that important- right?).... We women are insulted by Republican strategists who actually believe women will vote for any other woman...as long as she's female.... NOT!… To quote a staunch Republican Female-Voter, "There goes the ticket." Written by KjunLady
