New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Win: Brees, Manning Text

Saints coach Sean Payton showed up for his day-after news conference on Monday morning at Fort Lauderdale red-eyed. I didn't get to bed until about 4 o'clock this morning," said the winning Super Bowl coach.

Payton slept with the Lombardi Trophy next to him. "I rolled over a couple of times, and I probably drooled on it," said Payton. "Nothing like being an NFL coach and being part of this with great players like Drew Brees. I don't take that lightly. I'm honored."

Brees told the media he got about five hours of sleep and asked his wife, "Did yesterday really happen?"

Brees said standing on the trophy stand and holding his one-year-old son, realizing what we had accomplished," was a great feeling I had after the game," said Brees.

Where does Brees rank himself among the best quarterbacks--now that he had a Super Bowl title? "That's not for me to say," said Brees.

Payton indicated he already has his sights set on a repeat.

“Tthis allows you 24, 48 hours before you start eying up  the next season," said Payton. "Somewhere around midnight last night, we talked about Dallas. (site of the next Super Bowl), One of the greatest stadiums now that our league has. There's probably never enough in regards to challenge."

The Saints continue to get little respect from the national media and odds-makers.  The Colts have been tabbed as the early favorite to win the next Super Bowl.

According to Bodog, com, the Colts are 13/2 favorites to win the Super Bowl a year form now.

The Saints are third, tied with the Patriots at 10/1. The Chargers are second choice at 8/1.

Six teams -- the Browns, Lions, Chiefs, Raiders, Rams and Buccaneers -- are all tied with the longest odds on the board at 100/1.

Colts quarterback Payton Manning went straight to the locker room following the Super Bowl, rather than staying on the field and shaking hands with Saints players and coaches.

Manning's take on the loss: "They made critical plays when they had to, we didn't."

Brees said Manning leaving the field without talking to anyone was OK with him.

"After the game was over it immediately became kind of a free for all," said Brees. "I was trying to find him and I know that he was trying to find me, but there was too much of a crowd."

Manning contacted Brees by phone late Sunday night
.
"I was able to talk to him after the game, just text messaging," said Brees. "I have a lot of respect for him and I know that he was definitely congratulatory toward our team. He's a class guy. He definitely reached out."

Brees was voted the game MVP, but he won't be getting a Cadillac as the winners have in the past. Cadillac began taking a lower media profile at the Super Bowl in 2009 after the automotive industry received a government bailout.

At least Brees and a few of his teammates went to Disneyworld on Monday before returning to New Orleans on Monday afternoon.

Disneyworld held a ticket-tape parade for the Saints on Monday just before noon.

Saints cornerback Tracy Porter made one of the key plays for the Saints in the Super Bowl when he intercepted a Manning pass and returned it 74 yards for a touchdown. Monday on the Dan Patrick Show, Porter described what he saw in Manning's face when Peyton realized he had thrown an interception.

"I could see a little expression on his face that he was pretty upset," said Porter, who played college football at Indiana. "He was upset that he threw it. He was trying to come in hot pursuit of me, but Will Smith got a great block on him and allowed me to cut back. Once I got past Peryton there was no looking back."

Porter said he admires Manning, but is happy to be a big reason that Manning doesn't have his second Super Bowl ring.

"We're the Super Bowl champs," said Porter. "I like the way that sounds."

The Nielsen Co., which ranks television ratings, says the Super Bowl got its highest overnight ratings in 23 years. In America's 55 biggest media markets, the game got a 46.4 rating, a significant increase from last year's 42.1 and the largest overnight since the 1987 Broncos-Giants game.

Final numbers will likely show that the Super Bowl topped 100 million viewers for the first time.

SOME HITHER, OTHERS YON: Saints running back Pierre Thomas: "If we'd lost the Super Bowl we'd be forgotten forever."...Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle, summing up the Who Dat flap: "The fact that the NFL  even mentioned 'Who Dat?' in a cease-and-desist letter indicates that while some people on NFL Legal may have hearts, and others may have brains, nobody seems to have a matching set."...A major sports team from New Orleans hadn't competed for a championship since the Buccaneers played the Pittsburgh Pipers in the 1968 American Basketball Associate finals...

From Miami Herald humorist Dave Barry: "The pregame scene outside the stadium was very festive; the sun was shining and the fans were happy (I am using 'happy' in the sense of 'fairly hammered already'), You could tell the Saints fans because every few feet they would shout 'Who dat.' This is a system -- similar to the sonar system used by bats --that enables Saints fans to identify each other by sound when they are too  happy  to see."...You'll find former Saints e and offensive coordinator Danny Abramowicz living in his hometown of Stuebenville, Ohio, where he cares for his 90-year-old-father. Abramowicz, 64, is deeply involved in his Catholic ministry through speaking engagements and "Crossing the Goal." which airs on cable's Catholic network EWTN...

Archie has been given the free ride for all these years. "No line", "ran for his life", etc. etc.. I watched Archie throw balls at the feet of receivers when he had no pressure at all. He won an average of less than 4 games per year during his tenure with the Saints. His inability to come to terms with his own failure led him to raise his children to become the crybabies that they are. The reason that only 11 people showed up to meet the Colts at the airport is because Peyton plays every game with the attitude that he must win at all costs. He sucked the fun out of the game for himself and for the Colts fans. I feel sorry for them, because they consider anything short of a superbowl victory to be a dismal failure.

If no one else cares , I do. Peyton manning is a bad sport and his Father , Archie manning is worse as he is a paid spokesperson for the Saints and I have yet to see him come out to congratulate the team on their win. I can only sums it it up this way.. "His momma did not raise him right" this is what my Mother would say. I only have one son, he played sports since he was 4 years old..Win or lose ..when you won you did with humility and when you lost you did it with humility and you also acted like a true sportsman and shook the hands of all the winning team players...I have lost respect for the Mannings and if Archie is paid by the Saints, he needs to be released and Bobby Hebert needs to be hired in his place..I would sure like to have this or someone say something about this on tv or radio . thank you.... God Bless our Saints Football Team
