Four Louisiana Business Projects Receives Awards From Magazine
Recently. Louisiana Economic Development has some good news. Not only did Site Selection magazine release its annual "Governor's Cup" rankings, which showed that Louisiana's national economic development projects ranking improved 12 spots from 27th in 2008 to 15th in 2009. but yesterday it also released other citations.
Here is a press release from the Louisiana Economic Development:
Trade & Industry Development magazine released its fifth annual “CiCi Awards” (Corporate Investment/Community Impact) in which four of Louisiana’s business development projects from 2009 received awards, more than any other Southern state.
SNF Holding Co. in Plaquemine, La., (510 new direct jobs), V-Vehicle Co. in Monroe, La., (1,400 new direct jobs) and ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston near Delhi, La., (500 to 600 new direct jobs) all were selected among the top 15 new Corporate Investment projects announced in the U.S. for 2009. Only four other Southern states had any projects in the top 15, and each of them had only one project versus three for Louisiana.
The Foster Farms project in Farmerville, La., was recognized as one of the top 15 in the country for Community Impact.
"No plan to move our state forward is realistic during these tough economic times without targeting business growth and greater job creation for our people," said Gov. Bobby Jindal. " We don't want our kids to have to leave our state to pursue their dreams; we want them to be able to find a great paying job right here at home because Louisiana is the best place in the world for businesses to expand and succeed. This new ranking is further proof that our efforts to grow our economy are working."
“Last year we were named State of the Year by Southern Business & Development magazine for having more significant business development wins per capita than any other Southern state, yet that ranking was based on our business development wins in 2008. In 2009, our business development results were even better than in 2008, and the latest business development rankings are a reflection of that,” said Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret. “This latest recognition by Trade & Industry Development, combined with the other positive recognition Louisiana has received recently, is another indicator that our economy is performing better than the South and U.S. during a difficult national recession, and that we are successfully positioning our state for future growth.”
Louisiana ranked second best in the U.S. with four total awards and second best nationally in the Corporate Investment category with three total awards. Louisiana’s four total awards, as well as its Corporate Investment awards, ranked best in the South.
According to Trade & Industry Development, more than 1,000 submissions were considered for project announcements that were made in the previous year. The Corporate Investment projects ranking is based on projects that have the largest number of new jobs, largest number of retained jobs and highest total amount of capital investment. The Community Impact projects ranking is determined by the number of new jobs created, number of current jobs retained, unemployment figures, income level of the region, plant closings and other relevant factors.

I overheard a conversation, I guess everyone grapples with understanding, worth, value, peace, reason, fear, desire, hope, aspiration, love, want, pain, poverty, and many other realms of the human psyche…. During his dialogue he mentioned gopher wood, floods, ‘Satin’s minions’, and then all of a sudden he started to speak in units of measure…. I heard him say that the speed of sound was blah-blah-blah miles per hour and that the speed of light was blah-blah-blah miles per hour (He got the numbers wrong, but for the sake of conversation I suppose it sounded good) and then he said there is a speed faster than the speed of light. I pricked my ears, I doubted it if he understood what he was speaking about but I am sometimes interested in things like that and spaghetti theory, although right now there are some folks that are still trying to quantify or qualify string theory….. Anyways….. he says; “It is the speed of thought, imagine thinking of Pluto and you are there”…. I sort of grinned to myself, wasn’t even going to start contemplating spiritualism, or existentialism, naturalism, , justice, property, rights, codes, law, and the enforcement of code by authority and of course the almighty control be it mortal or delusional, but I could see how it is often very difficult for some to keep their eyes from gazing at the circling skies. At the same time I couldn’t help but notice he had answered his own preponderances which of course was; The speed of thought is imagination…………. I suppose he perhaps chose Pluto as the example of some sort of a place that was far – far – far away being as the mind really does sometimes labor under limitations real or imagined to see beyond the obvious. I myself would have perhaps said; “Imagine thinking of Alpha Centauri and you are there”, or “Imagine thinking of Ganymede and you are there” or perhaps even the Orion Nebula, or the Andromeda galaxy…… But that is just me I suppose. I wondered why he would choose a solitary cold lifeless orb circling around in and among the dark outer fringes of our Solar system, seemingly alone as a final destination to aspire to instead of wanting to be nearer to the Sun which can always be seen unless something is passing before our eyes and blocking its view. But, I suppose if you can imagine it, then you are perhaps already half way there.. I would wonder what it is we are fixing our gaze towards…. Pursuits towards the darkness, or a desire for the light……. What is our real value system here? It all starts with the imagination, and if you are capable of thinking it, then you are already half way there……. Written by

Site Selection Magazine has a circulation of approx. 44,000 / with 32,000 of those subscribers being c-suite manufacturing ( whatever that is, I guess that is high tech version jargon for ‘rust belt’ manufacturing)& corporate real estate executives; and another 50 of those subscribers are governors of other states, (Ooooh, I bet they are shaking and quaking in their boots as Louisiana chants "Move over America, Louisiana is shifting gears!!!!") and it has another 1200 people out of the billions of people on the planet subscribe to it which are plant managers and consultants of some kind or another…. Probably makes some pretty good 'coffee table in the waiting room clutterings'.... I hope it has plenty of glossy color pictures, and at least one cameo posting of our wonderful Guvvy Guv in it from time to time.... Ehhh, the reality of it is I guess the ‘Help Wanted’ section of the Times Picayune gets more ‘cursory’ glances each day than this magazine does, who knows? I sort of laugh when I consider the almighty and magnanimous consternations, pursuits, and marketing efforts of Louisiana’s very own ‘Award Winning’ Economic Development Agency. So keep the positive spin going there buzzy buzz.... It makes people sleep better at night knowing we are #1!!! We are #1!!!!! Who Dat! Who Dat!!!! Written by
