Barack Obama is constantly overloading our airwaves, the Internet, print and every form of broadcast media. At this point in his term, he has conducted more television interviews and news conferences than any prior President. He has been featured on the cover of magazines such as Time and Newsweek dozens of times. It is hard to get through a newscast without his name being mentioned.
His overwhelming presence is coupled with an ambitious liberal agenda that has divided the nation and led to a major drop in his approval ratings. Many people are tired of seeing his image and hearing about his agenda. Everyday his administration is pushing a new scheme to expand government or increase control over the lives of Americans. In recent weeks, he has been aggressively pushing his healthcare plan, but it is becoming more unpopular as people learn about the disturbing details.
On Tuesday, the President will expand his reach into classrooms across the nation. His speech to school children will focus on doing homework and studying hard. While the message may be innocuous, why does the President feel the need to address the children of America? When George H. W. Bush spoke to public school students in 1991 about the importance of math and science, he was blasted by Democrats for engaging in “pure politics.”
Parents should be similarly suspicious of Barack Obama. Initial plans called for students to follow the speech by writing letters about "what they could do to help the president." Although the letter writing campaign was modified after parental outrage, it is no surprise that many parents will be removing their children from school next Tuesday. Parents, teachers, administrators and school board members were not allowed to give their input into the speech for it was presented as a fait accompli.
There have been so many complaints that St. Tammany Parish Public School Superintendent Gayle Sloan announced that a substitute assignment will be provided for students whose parents are opposed to the presidential message.
Parents have a right to be concerned according to cult researcher David Conn, who believes that Obama shares many of the characteristics exhibited by the notorious cult leader Reverend Jim Jones. As an investigative reporter, Conn attempted to warn people about Jones prior to the Jonestown massacre. Today, he is trying to do warn the American people that Obama’s egotism, political manipulation, radical associations and legions of naïve supporters are indicative of a cultist mentality.
It certainly seems that Hollywood has fallen under the spell of Barack Obama. An Internet video featuring idiotic stars like Nicole Richie and Demi Moore shows celebrities pledging to be “a servant of our President.” While this could be dismissed as nonsense from foolish media personalities, it is also alarming that these morons impact our culture and the media that surrounds our children.
Young children are impressionable and can be influenced easily. Throughout history, dictators have increased their grip on power by appealing directly to their country’s children. In our country, it is essential that our children remain free from political influence and are allowed to learn their lessons without propaganda or political correctness.
If Barack Obama really wanted to improve the educational system, he would dismantle the Department of Education, lessen the power of the teacher unions and give more control to local school boards.
Of course, his agenda involves building federal control over education and every other aspect of our lives. While his message to students may be harmless fluff, the parental opposition indicates that many people are frightened about the direction the President is taking this nation. It is another sign that the cult of personality Obama style has hopefully reached its limit.

I would like to see Obama - and anti-capitalists "progressive economic thinkers" in general - to quit forcibly subsidizing inefficiency and waste, as much of his proposals would do. As but one example, let "alternative sources of energy" compete in the market, instead of making everyone pay higher than actual cost for existing hydrocarbon fuels to subsidize those forms of energy that cannot compete - due to its high cost - with our more cheaper and plentiful (oh, but that IS redundant, no?) existing forms of fuel. His idea of "subsidizing" nuclear power plants is also flawed. Just allow power plants to be built, don't funnel tax dollars to the companies who build them. The market works when government gets out of the way. When government tries to control the market (as with the Community Reinvestment Act) they create far more problems than they ever solve. I cannot speak for others, but I am, have been, and will remain quite calm. I am not against everything this administration proposes, but I am against everything and anything that cannot be paid for within the confines of the money available in the Federal budget. Raising taxes and not having deficit spending is far preferable to deficit spending without an end in sight. I don't think Obama feels this way, so I am wary of anything he proposes. "Wary" but willing to listen. If I disagree I won't raise my voice - no need to really, his lack of leadership (i.e. restraining the spendthrift Democratic congressional leadership) is hamstringing his initiatives (due to a loss of trust) far more than any effect due to town hall loud mouths. The whole speech is now available on the internet. For those with open minds who read it you will recognize that this President is an excellent orator. He manages to slip in his "fair" agenda in though most will not hear it. It is the seed that is planted in little minds unable to understand that life is not always fair. We are all free in this country but when we attempt to make everyone the same is where we venture into the social engineering that is not what our founders intended.
We are all born with God given talents and abilities. What we choose to do with those abilities determine our futures. I personally would have preferred that each family with children in school get this in letter form in the mail. That way it would be the parents who read and discussed the message. Thank you for considering the parents on both sides of this issue. Shame on principals and teachers who want to supersede parents’ rights when it comes to the education of their children. The President’s stance on abortion is against the Church, and no one is going to dissuade him from that stance. I am sure, though, that he will not be advocating for abortion, or the like, during his Tuesday speech. Your resolution in allowing the televised speech into the school does allow for open discussion and does make it clear that the church supports intellectual freedom.
We realize that people working closely with President Obama have put forth controversial video pieces that conjure up fear of a less-than-democratic society. At no time has any other United States President had such a following of socialist-minded people. If President George W. Bush had a similar following, the American people would have been leery of, and would have discouraged, any type of similar address of encouragement to the children by him.
Still, our youngsters need to listen to successful people of all races who can offer their advice of studying and staying in school. By doing this, they can form concrete ideals that symbolize their respect for honorable and educated men and women in this society – role models who make sense with their message of staying in school and learning.
It takes more than a sitting president to motivate children to be successful. It takes the child’s family and his or her community. Motivation to succeed and to become ready for the real world, away from the need of governmental hand-outs, should be the goal of all educators. By allowing the president’s speech into your schools, you have taken a large step in denying racial bias, and you should be openly commended. By allowing parents the right to decide for themselves the appropriateness of this event in the lives of their children, you are allowing freedom – the cornerstone on which this great Nation was created.
Please continue to “strive toward excellence in education and Christian formation.” Today, more than ever, parents of all races and socio-economic backgrounds are sacrificing to pay for their children to attend your schools. They are looking to promote their children’s education and not allow public schools to whittle away at their children’s minds, hearts, and souls. Again, by allowing students the opportunity to see the televised speech inside your schools, with parental permission, you are showing your openness to outside discussion, and your opposition to racial bias. I am proud to say that I am a Catholic.

The first sign that this was not just a "welcome to a new school year" type of address is that the Administration pulled back the Lesson Plans that came with the speech. It is good to see that we are not so "stuck on stupid" that we do not recognize that asking elementary school children to write a letter explaining how they can "help Obama" is political. Morals, values, and yes politics are best discussed at home. Did no one get the message when people were asked to report emails, conversations, etc that was critical of his health care plan? Since when in America, are we asked to report our neighbors thoughts on any subject? This POTUS has surrounded himself with unelected, radicals who do not answer to anyone but him. Given their lifelong links to organizations and beliefs that run contrary to our Constitution and our Republic, we need to guard our children from "indoctrination". Elementary students are not capable of making choices and more often than not only aim to please. As the young marine said in a townhall meeting last week in so many words, leave our children alone and do your job - defend and protect our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. There are many in this country who pull out the race card every time someone disagrees with what is going on in DC today. These are the same people who attacked everything Bush did again using the race card. I don't have a problem with the President speaking with the school kids. He will not be passing out decoder rings for students to decipher his message. Every parent will hear it the same way their child will, and will be able to react to it and explain it to his or her child, or children.
While I believe he has a right to do so, I also believe that parents have the right to determine what is in the best interests of their children to read, hear, or see. It is their right, as parents, to act guardians on their children’s behalves, and their right to prevent their children from being a part of anything that goes against personal beliefs, regardless of whether that fear is actual or merely perceived.
As for the Archdiocese giving an option to view the speech in open venues, there is absolutely no problem with this. I would actually give kudos to the Archdiocese for allowing his speech into Catholic schools and giving students, and their parents, the option to watch, as at least one of the President’s views counters the beliefs of the Catholic Church. These children are in Catholic schools to get a Catholic education, so, one could argue against allowing this into the schools, on the basis of religious freedom.

Obama's initial plans - before public outrage - was to get kids to write essays on "how you can help President Obama" which obviously means politically. This is the same approach that Castro and Venezuela's Chavez and all totalitarian governments try to indoctrinate the young.
If this was just about encouraging kids to do well in school, that would be fine. But it started off with a political agenda, and that's what it still is.
Obama appoints a wild radical, Communist as his Green Czar, Van Jones. This is a guy who accused President Bush of staging the whole 9/11 attack!

All you responders critical of Jeff's commentary are living in a dream world. What he says, and what I am saying has NOTHING to do with race, and everything to do with freedom--or the forboding prospet of a lack thereof. I have travelled extensively on business over the years into many countries run by democratically "elected" officials that have used their initially duly elected positions as a perpetual platform to freeze out the voice of others, indoctrinate the children, perpetuate their hold on power (some, like El Haj Omar Bongo--ne' Albert Bernard Bongo--for over 30 years), stack the deck, stifle opposition, and manipulate the results, in the process stashing away hundreds of millions, if not billions for themselves and their cronies while the freedoms we have traditionally taken for granted are stripped away, one-by-one, all in the name of "fairness". They are in your face on television. the newspapers, the movies, etc., etc., etc., 24/7. And the past two plus years or so of Obamaism bears a striking resemblance to this. A national address "to the children" might make sense if it occurred in a vacuum, but we know what has been going on lately, who Mr. Obama's associates are, what their philosophies, methods and objectives are, and the prospects are frightening. It is outrageous to assimilate Mr. Bush's push for No Child Left Behind to the originally proposed scope of the Obama address to school children when viewed in the current environment, and particularly when it is staged in the same week he is to address both Houses of the Congress and the American people on his health care proposal--and recognizing he has already employed children extensively as props in his earlier appearances on the subject. The American people better stop watching the programming crap fed them on their giant size HD TVs, playing on their computer games, etc., and start observing what is really going on, and then alter its course.
